[Question]: Should sticky header with DataTable have horizontal scroll?

Question for Carbon

As you can see at https://react.carbondesignsystem.com/?path=/story/components-datatable-basic--default&globals=viewport.value:sm, using a sticky header with DataTables turns off horizontal scrolling. This results in the content overflowing poorly on small viewports or with wide tables, such as:

Compare to when you disable the sticky header, which uses a horizontal scroll to better show the table contents.

Is sticky header behaving as intended? Or would it be possible to have it use the behavior of no sticky header? (I know this is tricky code. Either way, thanks for Carbon!)

Thanks for opening an issue! I think ideally it would still horizontal scroll, but progress on the experimental stickyHeader in general has slowed down. For more advanced data table usages we've begun suggesting projects consider a more scalable tabling solution with this type of thing built in, like Tanstack Table.
