Multiple AladinLite window renders much slower in v3 compared to v2

I have web pages with (e.g.) 50 transients on a page. With AladinLite v2 I can render 50 windows very quickly indeed with no problems. But with v3, with just about everything switched off (as far as I can figure out), renders are much, much slower to the point of being unusable on my pages. To get round this, I now have to keep two versions of AladinLite running. The v3 widget has moved the menus to custom drawn menus on the AladinLite window. I suspect this is slowing down the mass rendering. Is there a setting I can use to speed up the rendering? I'm happy to use the hybrid of the two versions, but I'd much rather use just one version everywhere.

We'll see if we can improve this use case, namely multiple AL windows rendered in the same page. I am afraid that some of the speed differences come from the WebGL initialization time in AL v3.
But we have to investigate a bit more first.
