Proposal: Add breadcrumb component to the DS #2517

@natalia-fitzgerald

Description

@natalia-fitzgerald

I would like to propose adding the breadcrumb component to the DS. The purpose of this issue is to initially run the idea by the team to determine feasibility. Depending on the team's decision I can continue to work on this.

This component has already been added to the DSR. The breadcrumb component is widely used on cf.gov and in apps, such as Complaint Explorer.

Link to the component in the DSR: https://cfpb.github.io/design-system-react/?path=/docs/components-draft-breadcrumbs--overview

Add a new component

  1. Review the following acceptance criteria.
    Please ensure you can answer "yes" to one of the following questions before proceeding.
  • Is the proposed component currently being used on more than one page type on consumerfinance.gov?

The breadcrumb component is widely used on cf.gov and apps, such as SBL and Complaint Explorer

2. Prepare your proposed component for review.

  • Gather data or research to show that the proposed component is accessible and usable.
  • Request a technical review from at least one member of each discipline including product/UX design, FEWD, and BEWD.
  • Determine if you have sufficient resources on your team to design and build the component or if you will need to request additional resourcing to build it.
  • Draft documentation for the proposed component to be included in the DS site. Please draft the documentation in Word for easy editing and collaboration before moving it to the DS.

3. Start the review process.

  • Contact the Design & Content to request a review. We'll review your proposed component and talk you through the remaining steps of building, QA'ing, publishing, and updating the component in our CFPB Figma library.
