Question about long-term support for baseimage in apko

Hi team,

I’m wondering if the baseimage feature in the apko config file is expected to remain supported long-term. This feature has been extremely useful for building large container images where some degree of layering provides significant efficiency benefits.

I understand that apko’s philosophy centers around producing single-layer images and that there’s also the layering feature with strategy=origin. However, for use cases like mine—where we rely on a stable base image that doesn’t change frequently—the baseimage option has been particularly valuable.

I just want to confirm whether it’s safe to continue building on this feature, or if there’s a chance it may be deprecated in the foreseeable future.
