This came out of a discussion on the relicensing / forks paper.

From @cdolfi: "As a bit of an offshoot, it would be very interesting to see the impacts of a vendor owned project moving under a foundation vs changing to a non OSI license. More contributors? Profit impacts? Etc"

From me: That would definitely be interesting to look at! Most of the projects going into the CNCF and a lot of the LF ones probably fit this model.

I got a first look at the JSON files today, and am working on a script to standardise into a CSV for easy looking over (by the end of this week)! Here's a list of the values we definitely have for each project, combining the json files, then a short list of my personal suggestions, but those are just opinions - I'll open that up to a discussion below. What data do you think we need to add to this metadata?

This week I'll provide the scripts to get those down from Apache Software Foundation website into a standard matrix so we can redo this pipeline in the future if needed.

Project Management Committee (PMC) (pmc)
Podling Status (podling)
Podling Start Date (podling_started)
History Start Date (history_started)
History End Date (history_ended)
Project Status (history_status - e.g., graduated, retired)
Committee Establishment Date (committee_established)
Committee Retirement Date (committee_retired)

Data We Need
Incubation Graduation Date – Some projects are marked as graduated, but exact transition dates are unclear.
Project Category – Classification (e.g., Big Data, Security, AI, Infrastructure).
Project Contributors – List of core maintainers, PMC members, and past contributors.
Project Activity Metrics – Commits, pull requests, and contribution trends.
Governance Model – Defines whether projects follow ASF governance or external structures.
License Information – Explicit tracking of project licenses (e.g., Apache 2.0, MIT).
Affiliated Organizations – Major corporate sponsors or contributors.
Security Reports – Past vulnerabilities, security advisories, and related information.
