From an architectural point of view, this request could somehow complement https://github.com/chili-chips-ba/openCologne-PCIE and I guess it is important to have in mind the full picture as early as possible with transparent and non-transparent bridges as used in specific industries like Automative, Aerospace, ...

From an education point of view, I was thinking about a direct interconnect between two LiteX SQRL baseboards via one or two SFP connectors and DAC cables.

An open hardware smart switch PCIe PCB would be nice. I guess the choice of the main PCIe switch chip should also take into account the openness of the configuration software/interface.
