version issue with winget

Strange indeed. The Clink update is published the same as always. If winget is handling it differently, that suggests something changed/broken on the winget side of things.

Btw, the whole thing v1.9.12 did (apart from also breaking updates for 5 hours) was to introduce a security enhancement to verify digital signatures before applying an update. In a coincidence that surprised me uncomfortably, right after I made those security changes I found out about two zero day exploits for other products/sites in the wild which had fallen prey to exactly what the new security measures in v1.9.12 prevent.

So, I would recommend using Clink's own updater, instead of winget's updater, for greater protection.

Winget only knows about 1.9.14 right now.
The pull request for it to include 1.9.15 has not yet been approved or merged.

How are you seeing 1.9.15 at all via winget?
Could whatever problem you're running into be caused by a custom winget source?

I don't know why y'all are seeing weird metadata, but winget itself has correct metadata, and you were seeing bad metadata even before winget had even been updated to know about 1.9.15.

So, something seems wrong outside of Clink or winget.
Maybe a custom source that generated incorrect metadata, disconnected from winget or Clink itself?

I think I've installed first via winget and later I always used clink update. But this lead to the update issue #839. I had updated just in the timeframe that broke updater 🤷‍♂️

So I used once winget upgrade --id=chrisant996.Clink -e to upgrade to next version and now again clink update this morning when I saw the notification about the new release. And here I saw this winget issue for the first time.

ok, the NSI includes data from CLINK_TAGVERSION and this is now somehow broken.

So does this come from a github change?

When you reported this problem, winget did not yet even know about v1.9.15 -- the pull request was not completed and there was no manifest for it in the repo yet.

I don't know how your computer was able to peek into the future, but something shady happened on your computer. I have no visibility into what happened on your computer, but the real winget and the real Clink are all correct right now.

The actual real NSIS installer is not broken. However, I agree that something bizarre is happening on your computer. I don't know how I can help with that, sorry.

Hello.
I had the same problem, but I would like to add that the same occurrd between 1.9.13 and 1.9.14.

Updating with
clink update
was adding the "new" version number, as winget would display it as clink.1.9.14.d5f9a7 . With winget upgrade clink, the version listed was 1.9.14

Ok, maybe the Clink updater is writing the version differently that it should, or maybe winget changed what format it wants versions stored in the registry. Will look into it this weekend.

So after the upgrade via winget 4 properties were changed: DisplayName, UninstallString, DisplayVersion and EstimatedSize

I also found a version 1.9.13 in a VM and here DisplayName is "Clink v1.9.13"

now I used clink update and the version changed to Clink vclink.1.9.15.41e80a:

As you can see the uninstaller is for old version 1.7.4 so this was the version I installed clink first and later I only used clink update to update. Looks like in this VM I skipped the broken .12 vesion (maybe from .11 to .13)

As I said, I subscribe to New Releases only,

got the notification, opened cmd and ran clink update to install the 1.9.15 release.

When I was inside this cmd I also used winget list --upgrade-available to check if there are other updates and saw that winget offered me the .14 again.
