Branch policy (TL/DR - only report bugs on main or dev branch)

Because I'm going to have a little less time in the coming weeks, some larger pieces of work might take a while to happen. So I'm planning the following branch policy (fyi)

• small changes, bugfixes etc. will be made on dev
• dev will be periodically merged into main as a 'dot dot' release (eg 1.3.1)
• larger pieces of work will be done on their own branch, either named for the release (eg 1.4) or the issue number (eg 180)
  • those branches will be periodically updated from dev to pick up the small bit of work
  • when complete they will be merged back onto dev
  • then after a few days of use by the dev users (that's you lot!) they can be merged onto main

I suggest that you use dev as a rule; when I'm working on a larger piece you might want to try that branch, but please do not report bugs against any branch other than main or dev until I say I think it is stable, since they will be WIP.
