Joining Voice Room not working

Describe the bug

When I attempt to join a voice server, the application keeps loading indefinitely and does not connect. The terminal shows the following output when I click the Join button:

Video capture was requested but no device was found amongst 0 devices

Reproduction

1. install newest Cinny desktop app on Linux.
2. Join any Voice Server

Expected behavior

Voice Server should be joined

OS: Arch Linux 6.19.6
Cinny Version: 4.11.1
Matrix Homeserver: matrix.org

I have the same issue (also on Arch). The web app works perfectly fine, but the desktop app won't connect to any voice calls. I got the same terminal output as well and thought maybe the lack of a webcam was preventing the app from joining calls, but after connecting one to my system and restarting the app the terminal output went away but I still wasn't able to connect to any calls.

I'm guessing the voice feature will be a bit hard to support because of the lack of webrtc in tauri for linux(tauri-apps/wry#85)

Looks like they're planning on adding a CEF backend which is available here to test: https://github.com/tauri-apps/tauri/tree/feat/cef

Slopped an electron version into existence for anyone who wants voice in a desktop app

Note: I have no intention on supporting this long term if at all and I'm unlikely to fix issues or update the underlying cinny version, most of the conversion was done with AI out of lazyness and I do not intend to provide a macOS build

Saying your facing the same issue on any Linux distribution is redundant, the root cause is already known

So there are two approaches to fixing this:

1. Using the CEF backend as @purepani and Lozenge mentioned
2. Fixing the upstream bugs

I haven't looked into the CEF one yet, but it looks like to fix upstream somebody needs to rewrite ~900 lines of Rust in C++ [1], [2], [3]

There is a 3rd option of having a webrtc backend written in rust, and exposing that in the js somehow if that's possible in tauri.

@kfiven expressed a desire to keep Tauri as vanilla as possible, citing concern over the maintainability of hacks

I think option 2 has the downside of needing to wait for a bunch of distros to distribute the new version, meaning support will be quite patchy on Linux.

CEF backend is probably the best of the 3 options, but it'll be a while till it's actually merged.

Yeah CEF backend is definitely the fasted option, but option one does have the benefit of not relying on Chromium for more things.

Of course we do have an issue we need to address currently — that being calls not working on Linux — so CEF seems like the best choice. Would be nice though if somebody could also get WebRTC working in WebKitGTK.
