Describe the problem

I sometimes store links to messages, and I've gotten used to, on Discord, just pressing Ctrl-K, pasting such link, and pressing enter, and it follows the link to the message.

Describe the solution you'd like

Allow the Search pop-up to recognize message URLs, such that an option for it appears in the list and can be selected to jump to the message.

Alternatives considered

Closest alternative I've tried so far is to paste the URL somewhere, then click it, which is rather inconvenient.

Why not just join directly by pasting the link in "Join with address"? (genuine question)

Would like to know your use case a bit more:

1. Where do you store the message links? (outside of client)
2. A few examples would be helpful.

Usually when I have a discussion somewhere that I want to check back on, I copy the message link and store it in my notes, and let it there so I get reminded of it later:

( ) check back on discussion: https://matrix.to/...

After some time I'll eventually get to that note and, at least when it's on discord, I can copy the URL I noted there, go to the discord client, and jump to it by doing Ctrl-K Ctrl-V Enter.

If you have the URL in your notes, why not just click it there?

At the moment, they just send me to the matrix.to domain, which has some suggestions for clients (including Cinny, on the stable branch?), but it implies opening it in a new tab. Maybe there's a way to set up an existing cinny tab on the browser to handle these? I'm not sure.

Yeah I mean I can see the case for wanting to jump to a specific message.
