Stopping a daemon via cli

Following #417, i'd like to be able to have my cli start the process as a daemon but also be able to stop it.

I cannot figure out in the documentation or the linked discussion how this might be accomplished. Ideally something like the following can be done:

my-bin start --daemon
my-bin stop

Are there docs or examples that folks can point me to?
