How to install this package on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS?

When i try to install this package with these commands it doesn't show up on this page: https://SERVER_IP:9090/apps.

Also restarting sudo systemctl restart cockpit doesn't help.

I do not get any error while installing nor using the other commands. I'm on Ubuntu version 24.04.1 LTS.

You mention the /apps path specifically. Do you mean that Cockpit itself works, but you don't have an "Applications" page? Or you do, and with "it" you mean something else? Or Cockpit doesn't start at all?

When I install it, I don't see the options to manage files on the dashboard. Also, I don't see the app installed on the /app page.

I tried make install and the manual install; both were unsuccessful, with no errors or warnings.

Was the make install command (as root) actually successful? Did it actually put the files into /usr/local/share/cockpit/files/? Or did you install into your home directory? Please check the output of cockpit-bridge --packages, it should have a "files" entry.

Was able to install this with no problem a few days ago. Not so much after the update to 15

So where was this info because its not in the READ ME. Also after trying to install this I get

Ah yes, you have to install cockpit from backports first. See https://cockpit-project.org/running.html#ubuntu.

Note this PPA is only temporary. I'm still waiting for cockpit-files to get through https://ftp-master.debian.org/new.html ...

Okay! So if you need to have this installed in your cockpit instance.

1. Download the latest release from cockpit releases page. (Current Release)[https://github.com/cockpit-project/cockpit-files/releases/download/15/cockpit-files-15.tar.xz]
2. Decompress the archive and you will find a dist folder, ideally copy this to /usr/share/cockpit/files (create the files directory).
3. In case you are using an older cockpit version, modify the manifest.json (requires.cockpit) to 314 instead of 318.
4. Refresh! and voila it should work.

Just tried this on a Ubuntu based distribution that also had Cockpit version 314 as the newest version in their repos and it works fine!

I just compiled it myself and copied that dist folder to the files folder.

Side note: For RISC-V based system you need to run "npm install" once to pull packages for that architecture first. The cloned node_modules folder contains x86 bound packages that let the build fail otherwise.
