Request: double-clicking files opens text editor

It would be extremely convenient to double-click files and have them open in the text editor.

This would not be useful for binaries of course, but definitely for text files.

I would appreciate this feature too.

But after reading This block of code on line 138 and This comment on line 460 I think there may be some performance issues that prevent "double-clicking files opens text editor" from being a feature in the foreseeable future.

maybe #729 can offer a hint;

[...] execute test -w when one selects a file [...] was deemed to expensive and doing it based on permissions is fragile.

Double click to open a text file functionality has been available in 45Drives Navigator for years.
Its lack in Files makes for a slower and more cumbersome user interface.
I find the statement that "Files" provides the same functionally as 45Drives "Navigator" only with a different user interface misleading as much 45Drives Navigator functionally is presently not available in Files. Hoping this will quickly improve.
