Improve authentication in the app

There have been requests for non-GitHub authentication methods for the planner app, as it is seen as a high bar to have to sign up for GitHub in order to attend a codebar workshop.

Some suggestions we've seen so far:

• Google
• email

@till has the interesting idea of creating a central authentication service (auth.codebar.io), which can handle authentication for all the apps (jobboard) has its own authentication as well.

I am happy to pair with @mroderick on this. We could make plans and prototype a bit and present to the website working groups what we think could work for all the websites?

YESS!! To this!! Being only able to use GitHub has been a huge annoyance of mine for while. Adding more options will make it way more accessible for many people signing up for the first time!!

I think options would be good. My instinct is to hand off authentication to SSO generally, rather than trying to manage it ourselves.

I agree, I also wouldn't do something that requires us to store a password.

Current thinking (@KimberleyCook please weigh in):

• add GitLab, Codeberg
• add magic links (people receive an email and click a link)
• (maybe) Google Sign-In
• (maybe) Office 365
• (maybe) passkeys
