User story:

• As the codechecker, I want OJS to deposit the certificate and metadata automatically, so that I don't have to do it manually and make no mistakes.
• As the publisher, I want to formalize the CODECHECK process and include metadata in metadata records/depositions, so that I guarantee data and software FAIRness and increase visibility of my own journal.
• As a publisher, I want the plugin to connect with the CODECHECK infrastructure for publication of certificates and metadata without my staff/my editors having to do work on other tools/platforms, so that it is guaranteed that the CODECHECK follows the CODECHECK principles and requirements.

just for clarification, we are talking about the CODECHECK issues, where for each CODECHECK a brand new issue is created which I assume has the certificate identifier inside.

I understand it like this: I create a script, that browses through all the issues (of all: to be done, in progress and already done CODECHECKS) to find each identifier that is already in use and then I take one that is free and create a new issue for the new CODECHECK with this identifier correct?

Couldn't I also browse the CODECHECK register for that, or doesn't that include the identifiers for each CODECHECK?

Yes, this refers to the issues in the CODECHECK register that are not "development": https://github.com/codecheckers/register/issues/?q=is%3Aissue%20state%3Aopen%20-label%3Adevelopment

You should be able to filter the issues using the "ID assigned" label, but consider both open and closed issues: https://github.com/codecheckers/register/issues/?q=sort%3Aupdated-desc%20is%3Aissue%20label%3A%22id%20assigned%22

Your understanding is correct!

The register does not include the identifiers of checks that are in progress, only for the completed ones.

Ah I see, so the register only includes identifiers for completed checks, but ongoing ones obviously also have unique identifiers. That makes sense

Right now I get the substring of the issue description with the Identifier (or Identifiers) inside. I now have to isolate the identifiers from this substring and save them in a list to get all IDs

I now retrieve all identifiers for the open issues (also for ranges of identifiers). Next up I need to order them and find the newest. Then I can create a complete new one
