Java 17 support

Can I have Java 17 on macOS build machine? Or how can I install it?

Hey @gofody, you can try to target Java 19 on macOs machine as its pre-installed. This will work if you have gradle version 7.6 or higher (https://docs.gradle.org/current/userguide/compatibility.html#java)

I am trying to build an Android app. I use gradle 8.0.0/1. I have these settings in my grade file

compileOptions {
    sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
}
kotlinOptions {
    jvmTarget = '17'
}

I modified my workflow as you stated but gradle gives me this error.

Execution failed for task ':app:hiltAggregateDepsGoogleStagingtest'.
A failure occurred while executing dagger.hilt.android.plugin.task.AggregateDepsTask$WorkerAction
Unsupported class file major version 63

with following settings

compileOptions {
    sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_19
    targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_19
}
kotlinOptions {
    jvmTarget = '19'
}

It gives me this

Execution failed for task ':app:kaptGenerateStubsGoogleStagingtestKotlin'.
'compileGoogleStagingtestJavaWithJavac' task (current target is 17) and 'kaptGenerateStubsGoogleStagingtestKotlin' task (current target is 19) jvm target compatibility should be set to the same Java version.

How should I proceed?

if you revert your settings to

compileOptions {
    sourceCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
    targetCompatibility JavaVersion.VERSION_17
}
kotlinOptions {
    jvmTarget = '17'
}

Do you get any errors on the build machine?
make sure you target java19 in codemagic.yaml

        environment:
          java: 19

or now when we have java17 on linux you can try to target linux machine instead of macOs
