I had the same error. My Flutter project files were inside a folder, not in the root of the repository. When I moved project files to the root of the repo, problem was resolved.

how do i do this? im at the point where i have a rough idea, but i still find it confusing :(

Hi, having the same issue, but I can't move my pubspec.yaml to my project root, can anyone help?

From the official docs, it states:

After the first build, you can select the project for building in App settings > Build > Project path dropdown.

In my experience, I was able to select the project folder where the pubspec.yaml was located. This might work for you as well.
