Description

Description

Add the ability to hide or show all desktop icons through the right-click context menu, similar to functionality found in modern desktop operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux).

Current Behavior

  • Desktop icons are always visible
  • No option to hide icons from view
  • Desktop cannot be cleared for a clean look

Expected Behavior

Users should be able to:

  • Right-click on empty desktop area
  • Select "Hide Desktop Icons" or "Show Desktop Icons" from context menu
  • Toggle visibility state that persists across sessions
  • Access files normally through other means (file explorer, search) while icons are hidden

Use Cases

  • Clean workspace: Temporarily hide icons for presentations or screenshots
  • Distraction-free: Reduce visual clutter while working
  • Wallpaper showcase: Better view of desktop background
  • Professional settings: Clean desktop appearance for screen sharing

Proposed Solution

Add context menu option that:

  • Appears in desktop right-click menu
  • Toggles between "Show Desktop Icons" and "Hide Desktop Icons"
  • Saves preference to user settings
  • Maintains icon positions when shown again

Steps to Test

  1. Right-click on empty desktop area
  2. Select "Hide Desktop Icons" from context menu
  3. All desktop icons disappear
  4. Right-click again and select "Show Desktop Icons"
  5. Icons reappear in original positions
