Hackathon experience improvement: smooth the learning curve for the tool #45

From Tyler Dawson:

a time or two I've felt overwhelmed with tackling a perceived learning curve of a new service and putting together a project. Some tools/services the hackathons center around just seem more intimidating and others more interesting personally

Could be great to formalize an intro session to the tool. Maybe a coordinated Learn With Jason episode to do the initial setup, which could be embedded in the hackathon as a resource? With proper planning we could time this to happen the Thursday after episode launch, which would work well as the hackathon kickoff day and would create a space for Q&A + real demo of the tool.

Alternatively (or in addition):

  • Advisor or coworker could provide or create a video / written quickstart to add to resources
  • A starter repo when it makes sense
  • Example code aligned to the challenge
