Should read: java -cp /Users/joe/SaxonHE9-9-0-1J/saxon9he.jar net.sf.saxon.Query hello-world.xq

Missing space between .jar and net.sf...

@pdurusau Thank you for this report! I have spotted a few other formatting issues in the ebook editions and will work with TAMU Press on seeing if it's possible to make corrections and push them out to readers. Happily, this is not a problem with the source text for the book. See https://xquery.forhumanists.org/code/011-pp26/, which reads:
