What is the purpose of sampler_pre_cfg_function()?

A recent commit added sampler_pre_cfg_function as an optional function called before sampling, which you can add to a model via the model patcher. What’s the intended use of this function?

All I can find or figure out is that it adds some sort of modifier pre cfg.
