Keep LXC's up-to-date

Hi,

I'm not sure if this has been asked before or has been described somewhere, I couldn't find it at least...
Is it possible to automate the updates of the LXC's? Like schedule them?
Are there any best practices?

this schedules container OS updates.

Updating the apps automaticaly is never a good idea, hence never implemented.

why is that? with nightly backups its easy to reverse a bad update.

That may be true for you. But not for the other hundreds of thousands who use the scripts. The function will never come. Before that, I'll drive my car into a tree 😂 all the issues that are coming, nooo way

I understand the reasoning behond not automatically updating apps, I've had my fair share of docker apps that suddenly didn't work anymore due to updates and breaking changes.
Is the only alternative to try and think about updating them from time to time?

There are quite a few apps that introduce breaking changes, almost every update. GoMFT is one of those, Frigate, ActualBudget (which we actually removed from the repo, not supporting it any more because of that).
Every update breaks the app or the update fails because they keep changing how the app installs, updates or is built.

You can imagine the mayhem if we give users a option to auto update all their apps. For someone who runs dozens of containers, that would be a nightmare if half of the apps break. Nightmare for us as well.

Auto updating the container OS is fine, you would do it anyway for security purposes, but app we would not touch because of reasons above.
