Regenerating the MOTD login message

Hi,

Some Parts of the Login Message when accessing an LXC created by community-scripts are static, for example the OS Version is once read and saved, therefore it's best to regenerate the MOTD after a big system update like debian bookworm to trixie.

The same commands can also be used to "create" the MOTD if the LXC was created before this MOTD was implemented.

Execute these commands in an LXC shell:

# remove the old motd
rm /etc/profile.d/00_lxc-details.sh
# Enter here the Application which is installed, this will get the "name".
read -e -p "Enter APPLICATION name: " APPLICATION

Why it isn't made to display current OS version during runtime instead of being hardcoded?

Something like this:

because the motd will only called at Install, not afterwards

There will be a lot of different preferences with MOTD, you'd never be able to please everybody.
It's fairly simple to customize your own MOTD, I've got my own private repo with a bunch of scripts/functions that run on log-in to an LXC to create a dynamic MOTD, including live OS and app versions.
Sure the login takes a couple of seconds longer but it does give me a quick view to see if any of my apps are out of date.

I'm happy to help you customize your own if you need.

@oOStroudyOo The above code is to "re-generate" the existing default MOTD of our scripts.

Filebrowser is an addon, they sometimes have different things.

Either way, it's still possible to have motds that update on log-in as shown in my screenshot rather than static as mentioned by Imperia777.
