Can podman not use ip{,6}tables at all?

I noticed when using podman that firewalld prompts for the trusted space to be working, and there are rules in the nat table of iptables. I don't understand why add iptables rules instead of nft/firewalld rules when firewalld exists

If I don't have firewalld installed, does podman prefer to use xt or nft?
