Error following the guide - could not create enterns script for guest OS: write |1: The handle is invalid.

So I'm following the guide that opens after installing Podman, but I'm getting this error:

λ podman machine init

Error: could not create enterns script for guest OS: write |1: The handle is invalid.

I'm not sure what this error is about or how to proceed from here.

Running the same command on a Cmder instance opened with "Run as administrator" made the command go further and succeed.

λ podman machine init
Extracting compressed file: podman-machine-default-amd64: done
Importing operating system into WSL (this may take a few minutes on a new WSL install)...
Import in progress, this may take a few minutes.
The operation completed successfully.
Configuring system...
Machine init complete
To start your machine run:

        podman machine start

I don't think the guide mentions it needs Admin privileges for this to work.

@MrAmericanMike I think this is a coincidence, and what you were seeing was a transient WSL issue. There shouldn't be a difference between running as admin and not. If you rerun this as a non-Admin prompt does it work?

Well trying to run it again as a non-admin gives me this now.

λ podman machine init
Error: podman-machine-default: VM already exists

What I did try without admin privileges and it works no issues is:

λ podman machine start
Starting machine "podman-machine-default"

This machine is currently configured in rootless mode. If your containers
require root permissions (e.g. ports < 1024), or if you run into compatibility
issues with non-podman clients, you can switch using the following command:

        podman machine set --rootful

API forwarding listening on: npipe:////./pipe/docker_engine

Docker API clients default to this address. You do not need to set DOCKER_HOST.
Machine "podman-machine-default" started successfully
