How CRI compatibility works in podman?

Hi,

I was not able to find any proper documenation about podman being CRI compatible, and how this CRI compatability works. Probably because podman itself is not an container runtime, but rather a tool that can use multiple container runtimes under it (runc,crun,runv (and ocijail that im interested in mainly)), which in their step, can be CRI compatible or not.
But i still have questions regarding podman and CRI:

1. On official website it stated that podman is "kubernetes ready". Using which container runtimes underneath? And how exactly that works? Podman stands here as "CRI shim" between kubernetes control plane and the actual container runtime (kinda like, translating container runtime requests/answers to CRI compatible format)?
2. What are the tasks of podman in integration between kubernetes and actual container runtimes? What does it do, that container runtimes do not?
3. For integration with nomad im pretty sure you can just define podman as "task driver" and on the node (where containers would be created) define podman to use container runtime i need (havent tested that, but believe that should work). Does the same strategy apply to podman + kubernetes integration?
