Podman Container Tools Core Maintainer Meeting
Attendees: Tom Sweeney, Ashley Cui, Brent Baude, Neil Smith, Nalind Dahyabhai, Paul Holzinger, Matt Heon, Ygal Blum, Mario Loriedo.
Meeting Start : April 25, 2025, 10:31 a.m. EDT (UTC-4)
Agenda
Community Manager Applicant Vote: Mohan Boddu
Buildah CNCF Documentation updates containers/buildah#6124
Minutes
Welcome, from Matt, to the attendees.
1) Neil brought up the request to add Mohan Boddu as a Community Manager. That would allow him to review the analytics and run community meetings as needed. Brent asked how broadly the community manager's duties would be undertaken by Mohan. These are noted at: https://github.com/containers/podman/blob/main/GOVERNANCE.md#community-manager.
Brent pointed out that the nominee needs to have a pull request (PR) created and that the voting should be done there instead of in this meeting. Currently, there is no PR. Matt noted that, as our governance says the voting needs to be done in a PR, it will be done there. Brent asked that all community managers be responsible for and do the duties as outlined in the Governance.
A core maintainer needs to put together a PR in an instance like this per the Governance, so Matt will do so.
2) Buildah added a section for just the Buildah maintainers in a proposed PR ( containers/buildah#6124). We should add links in that for the Community manager and Core maintainers to point to the Maintainers file on Podman’s GitHub. Then we will do the same for Skopeo and may adjust Podman’s Maintainers file too if necessary. It’s good to list the Maintainers in the individual projects' Maintainers file rather than in Podman’s Maintainers file. The Podman Maintainers file will be the location for listing the Community Manager(s), Core Maintainers, and the Podman-specific Maintainers and Reviewers..
Tom will modify the current PR further and send a note to all when it’s ready for re-review.
3) A question on where to run and how to document the meetings was started by Paul.
The concern raised is that the Google Meet being used today might not be suitable for CNCF, as we are using the Red Hat provided Google Meet.
Nalin pointed out that CRI-O uses the Red Hat provided Google Meet for their CNCF meetings, and then publishes the Agenda and Minutes in publicly accessible sites such as HackMD.
A general agreement was reached to continue using Google Meet from Red Hat for meetings for at least the near future.
Thoughts were expressed to do the Agenda and Minutes in the Podman GitHub repo. We need to publicize and follow the process of establishing, running a meeting, and the Minutes final location. The current thinking is to keep them in the Discussions on Podman.
