System prompts?

Got here because was asking myself the same question. Trying this out for writing an agent in Ruby, looks like a system prompt should be a config on chat?

IMO it should allow both an app wide initializer and a .with_prompt() method (which just prepends the prompt as a :system message)

I've just pushed an update to the documentation that covers system prompts. https://rubyllm.com/guides/chat#system-prompts

The functionality has actually been there all along with chat.add_message role: :system, content: "your prompt", I just needed to document it.

I'll be adding a chat.with_instructions method which will make it more elegant and discoverable in the next release!
