cy.exec() timeout exception

how can run dos command in background and continue next cypress command without closing window open by that dos command , in case of using cy.exec() getting timeout error
example : cy.exec(notepad)
so this command opening notepad and giving time out error , but my requirement is after opening notepad it should continue next line of code execution
