Thanks for contributing to the French translations and for raising this.

yahoe-001 is the long-time maintainer of the French locale and has been consistently professional over many years. When translations get changed or reverted it’s usually for terminology and consistency reasons, not to dismiss contributions.

I don’t speak or review French myself, so I can’t judge specific wording choices and rely on the locale maintainer for final decisions.

If you disagree with specific changes, please discuss them directly with yahoe-001 in the Crowdin string comments so they can be resolved there. I’ll also make sure they see this thread.

Thank you for collaborating to the SD Maid 2/SE French translation.

Allow me to copy here the message I have sent to you on Crowdin.
“You are required to always leverage the project’s translation memory (TM) and conform to the terminology used throughout the project for approved translations. You are not to use different terminology nor introduce different phrasing. Some of your translations have a meaning different from their source, so be careful there too. If in doubt, ask me in the comment and issue widget.”

I understand that you think that some of your terminological choices are better than the ones used for French in all of Darken’s project. However it is not so. I’ll take your example for “app” that is accurately translated “appli” when you insist on using “application”, which is not the right translation for the abbreviation “app”. We’ll use “application” in French when the full word is found in the source string. For strings that have a 100% or other very high Translation Memory (TM) match, TM translations that have all been reviewed, you consistently chose to ignore these reviewed TM matches and introduce translations with a totally different terminology and phrasing. That’s another problem and it break the project’s French translation consistency. A third one is that you sometimes misunderstand radically the meaning of the English source and enter translations that are not relevant. I very much understand that this can happen. That is why all translations are reviewed and errors corrected. I advise you to always check the string context before input a translation, and make sure that the translation you suggest make sense within that context. When in doubt, do not translate the string. You are welcome to ask a question to darken or myself using the comment/issue widget. Lastly, we are using set typographical rules for spacing, apostrophes, etc. A thin non-breaking space is used for double characters ; ! ? , and a regular non-breaking space is used after : and between a number and the value it relates to. A standard approach for French.
All wrong translations are deleted to ensure the TM only reflects reviewed translations. All translations that you provide and that meet these standards are approved. AI translations can be used as a base, but you should not use those verbatim, as they often do not meet the app’s standards for French (termbase, typography).

I do appreciate the time you spent working on this project. To make it even more efficient, please conform to the rules you see used for the SD Maid2/SE translation. I too spend a lot of time correcting your translations to make sure they meet the quality standards that SD Maid’s French-speaking users are used to and expect. Please take that into consideration.

Hello,

It's okay, I'll give up.
If you don't take the suggestions into account, there's no point in going any further.

Personally, I find it jarring to see abbreviated terms throughout the various SD Maid menus.

Just look at your phone. In the settings, you won't see "apps" but "applications."

Browsing through SD Maid, I noticed that the word "application" is simply boycotted and does not appear anywhere.

At least I've learnt something
and now I know that it should definitely not be used on SD Maid.

And I still maintain that the translation is completely wrong!!! 😠
I sent you private messages via Crowdin, which went unanswered. It's so frustrating talking to a brick wall...
It makes you wonder why @d4rken approved your translations because this is complete nonsense!

Besides the error I mentioned earlier, I've had time to spot others. But anyway, it's absolutely no longer my problem.
SD Maid is finished for me. The keys to the French translation are in your hands. So, have fun however you like, "Big Boss" !
