Energy usage

I was looking in the app and firmware to find out if they report the "sleep" status (doesn't seem so) but I found something interesting instead:
apparently some units, including mine, report the total energy usage in the variable iu_pow_cons.
I didn't find where it is shown in the official Airstage app, if at all.
I think it's in Wh, if somebody with a power meter can confirm that, then it can be exposed as an energy sensor with state_class=total_increasing, so it can be integrated in the energy dashboard.

Additionally, I have released an update to pyairstage to start collecting this field under the climate entity. Unfortunately, I've fought with HA in the past around updating dependencies, so the only way I know to ensure that it's installed is by running pip install --force-reinstall pyairstage@git+https://github.com/danielkaldheim/pyairstage.git@v2.2.0 within the HA container and then restarting.

Anyway, I can see Pow cons in the attributes of my units now, I didn't need to update manually.

I recorded the value over time and did some math: assuming the variable reports Wh, looks like my units absorb 5W on idle, 12W on fan only, and 160-190W on cool.
I'm not sure if these are plausible values, or if the variable needs conversion...

Passive use sounds right, running fan only my ASUH12LPAS is using 24 units/hour where it's rated for 26 (I'm assuming Wh) input power. I want to do a local test with AC on to make sure the BTUs track for the SEER rating (unfortunately the heat has died down so something I'll need to go out of my way to do)

Hmmm, running all 5 heads on cool for 15m resulted in an net change of 22 which doesn't seem right. I may need a better test though as I just turned on all units and polled this value every 10s across all devices

Is there anyway to force this on a HA Yellow/Green? Or is it a force uninstall and reinstall via HACs?

Has there been any advancement on this? I am very interested in being able to see the power consumption in HA.
I connected to my heat pump units locally using pyairstage and am able to see the iu_pow_cons values, but I do not see them in HA.
Is there anything I can help with to move this forward?

Do you know how that's handled with multi-head units? Is that just a counter for the consumption of the head unit, or is that supposed to include the head unit + outdoor unit? I've got 4 heads on 1 outside, and struggling to make sense of the numbers - for instance, a unit that's on during the day heating shows ~500000, but a unit that's off 24/7 is showing ~300000.

Assuming these are watt-hour measurements, if I add them all up it would almost exceed my total power bill for the month...

Each head reports independent values, so I am assuming they're a consumption counter. We have no idea if/how it subdivides across multiple heads. Similarly, we believe they're Wh, but we're not certain about that either. If they are Wh though, it shouldn't be too surprising that the addition of them all would exceed your power bill since these accumulators span many months

Thanks, appreciate the insight! I should have mentioned that my system is new, just about approaching a month of use, so the counters shouldn't eclipse the total consumption for the house. I'll see if I can make some sense out of them.
