How to troubleshoot an install?

I followed install instructions exactly at: Personal_AI_Infrastructure. MacBook Air M2 Sequoia 15.7.4 However I notice that my .zshrc does not get modified, thus: source ~/.zshrc && pai returns pai: command not found. During the installation, the last step reports this as well:
✗ Shell alias (pai): Not found — run: source ~/.zshrc
I don't know why .zshrc does not get modified. I don't know where pai is supposed to exist. I searched these discussions but can't find any next steps for such a simple error. Hints?

I can't help you with the zshrc thing, I would ask claude code to review the install and ask it if it's working or not. Prompt:

Cool. Thanks. I considered just asking claude to figure it out. And it did. This is what it told me:

Root cause: The PAI Electron GUI installer (install.sh --mode gui) runs with SHELL=/bin/bash in its environment. The installer's runConfiguration() detects the shell via process.env.SHELL
and writes to .bashrc for bash — which is why .zshrc was never touched, even though your interactive shell is zsh.

What was fixed:

1. ~/.zshrc — added bun PATH + pai alias:

bun

export BUN_INSTALL="$HOME/.bun"
export PATH="$BUN_INSTALL/bin:$PATH"

PAI alias

alias pai='bun /Users/MyUsername/.claude/PAI/Tools/pai.ts'
2. ~/.bash_profile — removed 4 duplicate bun PATH blocks (kept 1).

To activate now:
source ~/.zshrc && pai version

For future re-installs — use CLI mode instead of the Electron GUI to avoid the shell detection bug:
cd ~/Personal_AI_Infrastructure/Releases/v4.0.3/.claude && bash install.sh --mode cli
The --mode cli terminal wizard runs inside your actual zsh session, so it detects zsh correctly.
