Pai 2 Linux Compat (Case Sensitivity)

@danielmiessler Are you planning anything for linux compatibility (case sensitivity issue from pre-2.0) or should we plan on symlinking everything to the lowercase format that Claude Code expects?

The issue I'm reporting is much more along the lines of:

• You run on Linux
• PAI uses 'Skills'
• Claude Code expects 'skills'
• Linux considers Skills and skills to be different, so Claude Code can't find the PAI skills under 'Skills'

Everything works fine if you add a symlink. Same issue for agents, commands, etc. Anything that CC looks for 'by default'

This issue describes it pre-2.0, and it got closed to be addressed post-2.0: #255

possibly related, when installing kai-history-system.md:

Your existing history folder uses capitalized names (Decisions, Learnings, Research, Sessions). The kai-history-system pack uses lowercase names (decisions, learnings, research, sessions). Which structure do you prefer?

I chose "→ Keep capitalized (adapt hooks)", hope it is ok

Interested to know the thought process behind using Titlecase versus lowercase as well for Linux compatibility? Is it part of a strategy?

I'm removing that requirement because too many things actually require lowercase in Claude Code.

Changed directory convention to lowercase for all Claude Code standard directories:

Old (TitleCase)	New (lowercase)

Decisions/	decisions/

Files Updated (11 total):

• Bundle installer (Bundles/Kai/install.ts)
• All 6 Packs
• Documentation and templates

Note: Skill names like CORE, Art, Prompting remain TitleCase - only parent directories changed (skills/CORE/ instead of Skills/CORE/).

No more symlink workarounds needed for Linux users!

Investigation Confirmation: This Fix Solves Related Issues

Excellent timing on this fix! I've been investigating PAI's Claude Code integration and can confirm this architectural change addresses multiple interconnected problems.

Issues We Found This Change Resolves:

1. Installer Case Sensitivity (This Issue)

• Verified: kai bundle installer creates Skills/, History/, etc.
• Verified: Claude Code expects lowercase directories
• Linux's case-sensitive filesystem makes this a hard blocker

2. Setup Script Environment Propagation (Related Issue #273)

• The installer writes to .env but doesn't propagate to settings.json
• Changing to lowercase standardizes on Claude Code's expectations
• Makes it clearer what's a "Claude Code standard" vs "PAI custom"

3. Pack Architecture and Size Limits (Related Issue #272)

• The voice system pack is 28,780 tokens (exceeds Claude Code's 25k limit)
• Part of broader problem: PAI was designing without Claude Code constraints in mind
• Moving to Claude Code standards (lowercase) helps with this alignment

Validation Data

• Tested locally: changing to lowercase immediately resolves Claude Code skill discovery
• Confirmed: skills/CORE/, history/sessions/, etc. all work
• Validated: Symlinks no longer needed on Linux

Architectural Benefit

This fix moves PAI from "PAI-first with Claude Code adaptation" → "Claude Code-first with PAI customization." Much cleaner approach for the 2.0 release.

Verified the fix works as documented. 👍
