Get State?

Is it possible to add a feature to the AppleScript which returns a state? For instance, I have one for AirPlay which turns on or off however if I do so from iTunes, it doesn't update HomeKit. Perhaps there's a way to find the state every few seconds so HomeKit apps show the correct state?
