new Readme section

It would be nice to have the status of the project in the readme, because right now you should know that there is a list of working software in the docs, or the blogs in the discussions, but those are not explicit in the readme, and I think having it there could make the status of the project clearer. I think it could even be something very simple, from a link to those resources to a simple summary of the things you can do with the project.
I'm not making a push request because I'm not active in development, and I think it's best if someone with internal knowledge of the project decides what can be added and updated over time.
