Writing documentation is great, writing documentation that people actually want is even better ;)

I think each field of build.yaml really needs a much fuller explanation.

build_extension has 4 sentences devoted to it, yet it took this large article to make it even remotely understandable.

$lib$ and $package$ are some magic values which are not documented anywhere.

Most of the build.yaml spec is located in the buiild_config package readme, but no-one actually installs this package, so it's not a very discoverable.

VScode support some sort of autocomplete in yaml files by providing a spec. If we have autocomplete and docs on hover in the build.yaml file it would be awesome.
