Sega Saturn VA5 Internal Mod No Input Detected

Im having an issue with the Blueretro internal mod for my Sega Saturn.

Im using firmware 25.01_hw1
i can pair controllers but i cannot get it to read my button presses, ive tested voltage and am getting 5v at the vin and 3.3 at the 3.3v pin

ive adapted the guide pictured bellow

this is how it is wired on my Controller daughterboard.

i am able to connect to the ESP32 via blueretro.io and can change everything, my console cannot register any button presses and ive tried multiple controllers, any ideas? of what im doing wrong

i dont have any original controllers to test with unfortunately.

i have only wired up player 1.

Firs of all I think you should get an original controller and test if it works ok.
If the issue remais, try other ESP32 board.
And to let you know, the ESP32 board you are using is able to handle 5V, so you don't need the level shifter. Just solder the wires directly between controller board and EPS32 board.

thanks man, i actually got it working, i wasnt powering the level shifter correctly, once that was sorted its all working.
