I came across your hiring post and really liked the vision behind Datum. The idea of building an open network cloud and focusing on transparency and developer trust is genuinely exciting. I’ve been exploring the org and wanted to apply, but I noticed most of the core work is in Go. My primary experience is in JavaScript (React, Node) and Python. I’ve built full-stack projects and worked with APIs, authentication systems, and backend services, but I’m still early in my career and not yet at a distributed-systems/Go level. I checked the TypeScript and Python repositories to look for issues to work on, but there don’t seem to be any open issues at the moment. Since Go is the core language (which makes sense for what you’re building), I wasn’t sure where I could best contribute. I wanted to ask:
I’ve attached my resume for reference. I know I don’t yet have very deep systems projects — I’m actively working on improving. Currently, I’m learning browser extension development and building an end-to-end Chrome new-tab extension focused on developer productivity. The idea is to show GitHub PR/issue status, highlight critical PRs assigned to you, surface CI/CD failures, and give a quick “today’s focus” overview. I’m not sure how useful it will ultimately be, but I wanted to build something practical and real.
I’d really appreciate any guidance on how someone at my level could get involved. Thanks 🙌 |

Hi @kaleygel I came across this post and spent some time exploring your website and repositories over the past couple of days. I’m really impressed by the vision and the engineering direction you’re taking. The focus on building in the open and shipping end-to-end products with a small team is exactly the kind of environment I enjoy working in. I’d love to contribute and potentially join the team. To better demonstrate my skills and how I work, I’m planning to submit a contribution to one of the open-source repositories. If there are any high-priority issues or tickets that would be particularly helpful right now, I’d really appreciate being pointed in the right direction. I’m happy to go through any process you normally follow (technical interviews, coding exercises, architecture discussions, etc.). My goal is simply to find the best way I can contribute and add value to the team. I’ve attached my resume here as well. Looking forward to learning more about what you’re building. Best, |
