Please quote usernames with special characters

Hi everyone,
I have an issue with a user which contains special characters in its name (like IAMR:special-read-user) and unfortunately I am not able to change it.

It seems that quoting the usernames should solve this issue and I was wondering why this PR (#265) is not getting merged.

Unfortunately, I am not the author of the pull request. Are there any concerns or is it due to the lack of tests?

Would be great if someone could review it or perhaps the problem can be solved in another way.
