Re-introduce "demo mode" in GUI

In an older version of the GUI, we had a "demo mode", which would zoom the view to a single place, and then clicking an _affordance_ would (if applicable) navigate the view to the appropriate place.

This was dropped when the GUI underwent a major upgrade/rewrite, but should be re-introduced again.
