out of memory message

On my hp 2840 laserjet with total 224mb I can only print in PS. If I select pcl5 or 6, i get out of memory messages or totally black pages.

@MichielBruijn Oops, I completely forgot about this repo here, I didn't even keep the README up-to-date. :-) Support is usually via e-mail although it would be nice to have more of it here for sure...

Is the out of memory message on the printer rather than in the app? Does it depend on the resolution selected in the app (it would be rather strange if it didn't)? Do you experience it with the test page, with actual printouts from other apps or both?

Setting PCL5 aside for a moment, both PS and PCL6 are actually nothing more but a wrapper around a JPG of the page. JPG has rather good compression (and I chose it over PNG or general ZIP for this obvious reason, making a compromise on quality), so it would be very unlikely to see the printer not able to handle a JPG of its paper size in its supported resolution.

The out of memory message is in the app.
It depends largely on selecting PS or PCL.
PS prints everything, every resolution up to 600dpi
PCL 5 or 6 prints black pages or gives memory error message.
I experience it with printing test pages from within the app itself.
Did not try to print from other apps with PCL, PS mode prints fine.
But I hoped to speed things up with using PCL.
I'll try printing A4 full page jpg with PCL 5 with dpi600 once more.

If it's in the app, do send a log from the Settings page. You can send it to the support address provided or send it to yourself first, trim it if needed and upload here, if you prefer. It doesn't contain any sensitive information but look into it to make sure.

From 360 dpi upwards the rendering is different. For lower resolutions, the whole page is rendered in one step, for higher ones, in separate bands: both to spare memory (so an out of memory condition really isn't nice here) and to speed it up possibly using parallel cores. Android is known to fail to render sometimes, without any error message at all, just returning an empty bitmap but the app specifically looks for this case (fully black bands, indeed) and returns a "Temporary graphics error" in this case. I had a few reports of this and also experienced it on my own device (it's an interim problem and usually works fine if you print again) but, from the time this extra error condition was added, I didn't have any report of the black bands actually printed. The error itself was intended to address this issue, under the assumption that an error message is better than wasting toner or ink...

At any rate, this problem isn't with the printer, so the model and the memory installed is irrelevant, it's something with the rendering in the app.
