REST API: Where is it?

I just realized my deployment broke because the rest_api directory of the main repository is gone.
Is it not going to be supported in the future?

Yes, the rest_api package will be supported for as long as we'll support the 1.x release line. We're still working out the dates but it's going to be no less than another couple of quarters.

In the meantime, you can rely on the 1.x unstable branch here https://github.com/deepset-ai/haystack/tree/v1.x

Hmmm, I'm a bit perplex about the fact that rest_api disappeard. @masci does it mean that v2.0 will not have a pre-built REST API ? Because that was one of the features that got me to use Haystack over LangChain or llamaindex. The fact that you can build a pipeline and get a production ready API in an instant to integrate it in pre-existing solutions.

The rest_api only disappeared from the main branch, which is the unstable branch for the 2.x release line. The project is still supported and accessible in the unstable branch for the 1.x release line: https://github.com/deepset-ai/haystack/tree/v1.x.

We plan to add a way to deploy Haystack 2.x pipelines behind a rest api, hopefully it'll be ready by the time we officially release 2.0.0. In the meantime, if you want to try the 2.0-beta behind a rest api, you can have a look at this example https://github.com/deepset-ai/haystack-rest-api

Do you have any idea of the release date of Haystack 2.0 @masci ? Not asking a date but more like a time frame, are we talking weeks, several month, 6 month, maybe 1 year ? :) Thanks !
(I'm trying to know, because I'm building a project that use Haystack during the PoC, however it's complicated to decide on the tech-stack (haystack vs langchain vs llamaindex) to use when it's getting totally re-written.)

We don't want to stay in beta for too long, but we want to ship 2 major features in 2.0.0 that are currently under development: Agents and Evaluation. The goal for my team is to release 2.0.0 before the end of Q1 2024.
