silverstripe:buildflush task fails

I have recently updated from version 6 to 7 and now my deploy, which uses the Silverstripe recipe and the silverstripe:buildflush task fails:

error  in silverstripe.php on line 53:
exit code 255 (Unknown error)

The actual command executed runs fine if I run it in the terminal on the remote server:

/usr/local/bin/php ~/public_html/releases/2024_03_22_15_59/vendor/silverstripe/framework/cli-script.php /dev/build flush=all
