Bad Request on bulk delete operation?

I'm getting a 'Bad Request (400)' error when trying to delete a few thousand vector items (that were accidentally uploaded as Polygons instead of a MultiPolygon).

Is there some setting to control how many deletions can happen by default? Or should bulk deletes be done directly on the database?
