iOS WhatsApp notifications sometimes not received when using Waha

Hi, I’ve successfully set up a Waha session with my phone number, and everything works fine for sending and receiving messages. However, I noticed that on my iPhone, sometimes I don’t receive WhatsApp notifications when the app is in the background.

I'm using Waha Plus

I have the WhatsApp app installed and notifications enabled.

The behavior seems inconsistent: sometimes notifications arrive, sometimes not.

My questions:

Is there a known issue with iOS notifications when using Waha alongside the WhatsApp app?

Are there any recommended settings or workarounds to ensure notifications are reliably delivered to the iPhone while Waha is running?

Could this be related to multiple sessions on the same WhatsApp account?

I’m still facing the iOS notification issue and I’d love a sanity-check on my flow and on how presence should be handled.

What I do now (per outgoing message)

1. Send Seen
2. Start Typing
   wait a random 1.5–4s
3. Stop Typing
4. Send message
5. Set presence to offline

Code (C#) – simplified:

The problem

On iOS, lock-screen/banner notifications for incoming messages from customers are inconsistent when WAHA is running. Sometimes they arrive, sometimes they don’t. When they don’t, the message is there inside WhatsApp, but the phone didn’t show a notification.
Your docs suggest setting presence offline after sending, which I’m already doing, but it doesn’t fully solve it.

Hypotheses / questions

1. When exactly to set offline
   Is it better to:

   • set offline immediately after each message, or
   • once after a batch (my current approach), or
   • set offline before sending (so the connection is never “online” longer than needed)?

2. Does Seen/Typing extend an “online” window?
   Do sendSeen or startTyping keep the session in an active state for a grace period that might cause iOS to suppress pushes (because the account looks “active on Web”)? If yes, what’s the recommended cool-down time before calling presence offline?

3. How to verify presence state from WAHA’s point of view
   Is there an endpoint (e.g., /status or similar) that returns the current presence the server is advertising to WhatsApp so I can log/confirm we are actually “offline” right after the call?

4. Auto-presence / idle config
   Is there a config to auto-set offline after X seconds of inactivity? If yes, what values do you recommend to keep iOS notifications reliable?

5. Multiple linked sessions
   Could having any additional “linked device” (even idle) cause iOS to down-prioritize pushes? I currently ensure there’s only WAHA + the phone, but happy to double-check if you think this matters.

6. Any recommended delays
   Are there recommended min delays between last activity (Seen/Typing/Send) and the offline call (e.g., “wait ≥ 2s, then go offline”)?

If I’m misunderstanding how presence impacts iOS notifications (e.g., Apple/WA heuristics that treat “active web client” as suppressible), please let me know the best-practice flow you recommend (exact sequence + timing).

4. Configuração de presença automática/inativa
   Existe uma configuração para configurar offline automaticamente após X segundos de inatividade? Se sim, quais valores você recomenda para manter as notificações do iOS confiáveis?

5. Várias sessões vinculadas
   Ter qualquer “dispositivo vinculado” adicional (mesmo ocioso) poderia fazer com que o iOS priorizasse os push? Atualmente, garanto que há apenas WAHA + o telefone, mas fico feliz em verificar se você acha que isso é importante.
