Wicked Problems are a concept that originates from Design Thinking. You can say that the purpose of Design Thinking is to solve Wicked Problems. A wicked problem means that the nature of the problem is highly ambiguous, it's a problem with highly complexity where there are many knowns and unknowns.

Problem

When we sit alone with a problem or a challenge, it can grow on us, and become wicked. We develop a one-track-mind perception of the problem and become blind for possible solutions - we need a help, we need peers for sure, and maybe even experts to get going.

Solution

The solution to a Wicked Problem is Design Thinkning. It's a five stage process, that typically requires, that you are not alone. So in our world of software, it can also be seen as a methodology for pairs or even a mob to solve a problem together.

One persons wicked problem may not be so wicked after all - to another person. Join forces!

Value

Well first of all we get so get our wicked problems solved, but more importantly really, we become familiar with the process of design thinking, which, if we practice it, will allow us to get less stuck in problems - even when we are alone.
