gmail notification - Test notification fails

Hi, my apologies for this novice question: I'm unable to send any test notifications. I just receive the error "There was an error communicating with the server" as a pop-up, followed by "There was a problem processing the request, please reload the page." The notification debug logs are empty.

Is there some initial setup I need to do so that this works properly?

Sorry - I realized now I can view more detailed output in terminal. I'm using the following line:
mailto://{user}:{password}@gmail.com

I generated an app-specific password in gmail for this. The error I see in terminal is:

WARNING:apprise:Invalid From email specified: {user}@gmail.com
ERROR:apprise:Could not load E-Mail URL: mailto://{...}:{...}@gmail.com

(Of course, I have replaced "user" with my username)

Mailtos didn't work, but removing the brackets did - I didn't realize the user and password should go in those places but without the {} brackets. Thanks for your responses!
