Set working dir not working properly on KDE

Pressing the "set working dir" button, 2 things happen:

1. A dialogue box appears asking "load the existing files in this working directory?"
2. A file explorer window opens to select a working dir.

The file explorer is inactive as long as the first dialogue box remains. After answering on the dialogue box (either ok or cancel) the file explorer turns active and a folder can be selected but the new working directory is not set.

Not sure if it is relevant but when I initially fire electron through the terminal I get the following error:
