Checkbox schema outside of groups provided with wrong type

Hello,

with the upgrade dependency to 1.9.0 we were forced to change the types through out the application for the checkbox schema, which changed from boolean to string.

We observed that the checkbox schema does not behave consistently.

- inside a group schema is returned correct as string
- outside a group schema is incorrect and still returned as boolean
