Editing image that contains math equation but latex code is not in img alt property

For accessibity reasons we changed latex code location to our own property data-latex and now we notice that your editor doesn't use old latex value bases for editing image. I'm quessing that this is because math-editor.js showMathEditor function that uses alt propety. Is there a way to override this function so that it uses our custom property data-latex instead of alt.
